Book Title: Close To You
Book Author: kjobrien
This book takes us through the journey of Emma and Beau. Emma is a waitress who longs to go to college. Beau is the good bad boy who is in a band, and I must add, has cool tattoos as the book describes.
I would say that this book is exactly what you expect; ChickLit romance that's meant to be an easy read.
We are taken through Emma's journey as she gets the chance to make money from being Beau's fake girlfriend. And in the process, if it, ends up falling in love. With the countless fights between them and their drastic differences, their chemistry was non-existent at first. But as the book went further on, In my opinion, there still wasn't much fizzle between them.
However, one thing I loved about Emma is how she matured through the book. She always knew that she wanted to go to college and she actively works to achieve that dream; from taking the job to be Beau's fake girlfriend to applying for several scholarships to afford to pay her college tuition. Another thing was her empathetic nature. She worked overtime to afford to take her Nana to a nursing home and empathized with Beau as he struggled in his band.
I must say, it takes quite a lot to quit from a job that keeps you in the spotlight and pays you a lot of money; however, Emma did so after she noticed that being in the spotlight, and faking her relationship with Beau wasn't something that she wanted to to do.
However, I wonder, why couldn't she apply for the scholarships earlier? If the scholarships are what enabled her to afford to pay for her tuition, why did she have to go through the whole drama with Beau to apply for the scholarships? I believe that she should have gotten into college sooner, weren't it for that.
And now to Beau. Beau is portrayed as an alcoholic who has anger management issues. Furthermore, he loves to sing and writes most of MisFits' music (his band). He constantly gets into fights with, not only his bandmate Jace but also members of the public. I must say, he was protective over Emma during the period of their 'fake' relationship; which was sweet and romantic. One can tell that there wasn't much connection between the band members, and maybe that's what made them easily get into conflicts.
I wonder why Beau used to protect Jace? There's this time Beau fought someone who tried hitting Jace? Well, the answer to this isn't provided in the first book; maybe it's available in the other books of the series.
I also admire how Beau's character developed and he became more mature and aware of himself closer to the end of the book. I'd love to see if he backtracks to his old habits.
Nonetheless, this book was quite interesting and an easy read.
If you want a chick-flick book that will take you through gentle waves of love and conflict, I recommend this book. With 33 chapters, one can be done within two to six days depending on your reading speed.
